SUMMARY:The Bayreuth Festival
DESCRIPTION:Bayreuth\, Germany\n20-26 August\, 2024 \n \nFor almost one hundred and fifty years\, the Bayreuth Festival has been an unmissable event in musical life. Commissioned by Wagner himself (and made possible by the patronage of King Ludwig II of Bavaria)\, the event is devoted every summer to the operas of the composer of Tristan und Isolde. Located on a “sacred hill”\, the theatre is the place of all legends. The greatest artists (Nietzsche\, Debussy\, Boulez…) have gone there on pilgrimage\, and there is a unique atmosphere in this hall\, where the orchestra is invisible in the pit (“the mystical abyss” say the Wagnerians!) creating an absolutely incomparable acoustic. \nThere are countless legendary productions that have punctuated the history of the Festival\, and it is to one of them that we invite you for the end of this month of July. Director Valentin Schwarz‘s Ring Cycle (Rhinegold\, Valkyrie\, Siegfried\, Twilight of the Gods) was praised when it premiered in 2022: it is being performed here under the musical direction of the great Australian conductor Simone Young. Among the stars of this Ring 2024 are great Wagnerians such as Klaus Florian Vogt\, Michael Spyres and Catherine Foster. \nWhile the Ring is the common thread of the Festival\, other works by the composer are in the spotlight\, including the return of the beautiful Tannhäuser conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann\, the superb Flying Dutchman directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov and the now famous Parsifal by Jay Scheib with its “augmented reality” glasses that caused a sensation last year. An unforgettable experience\, a dizzying ocean of music.

SUMMARY:Charpentier's Medea: A Baroque Masterpiece Revived with William Christie at Teatro Real
DESCRIPTION:Madrid\, Spain \nJune 6\, 2024 \n \nCharpentier’s “Medea\,” the second offering of the season in Madrid following Cherubini’s inaugural performance\, stands as one of the most captivating French Baroque operas\, showcasing the composer’s mastery in the genre. Under the baton of the renowned William Christie\, and brought to life by Veronique Gens\, the opera features vivid characters\, intense emotions\, and powerful vocal writing. Initially a commercial and critical success\, it quickly faded into obscurity\, remaining largely unperformed for nearly 300 years. \n \nA hallmark of all operatic Medeas is the need for a lead with immense vocal and theatrical prowess\, and Charpentier’s Medea is no exception. Unlike Cherubini’s later version\, the climactic moment in Charpentier’s opera occurs mid-performance\, when Medea\, echoing her predecessor Armide\, calls upon the furies of the underworld to aid in her dreadful vengeance. \n \nThe shadow of Lully looms large over Charpentier’s sole opera. Premiering at the Académie Royale de Musique in 1693\, it initially failed to make an impact\, largely due to the disdain from Lully’s loyalists who were wary of successors showing any Italian stylistic influence. However\, its modern revival\, spurred by Nadia Boulanger’s pioneering 1952 recording\, has transformed it into one of the most treasured gems of French opera from the Sun King’s era. With William Christie at the helm\, audiences in Madrid now have the unique opportunity to experience this Baroque masterpiece anew. \n \nBook a call with us to organize your journey:  lafugue@luxaviation.com

SUMMARY:Das Rheingold\, by R. Wagner in Berlin
DESCRIPTION:Berlin\n21-27 May\, 2024 \n \nYour invite to a truly exceptional stay. The Deutsche Oper presents Wagner’s Ring Cycle in four consecutive evenings: Rheingoldgold\, Die Walküre\, Siegfried and Twilight of the Gods. This exciting experience\, which must be done at least once in a lifetime\, is offered in Stefan Herheim’s remarkable staging. The Berlin Opera has a long Wagnerian reputation under the baton of its director Donald Runnicles. In the manner of a “winter Bayreuth”\, the singers gathered here (Derek Walton\, Ricarda Merbeth\, Clay Hilley…) are major interpreters of the German composer. What an experience! Wagner’s masterpiece performed in ideal conditions! \nWinner of several international awards\, Norwegian Stefan Herheim is one of today’s most important directors: in his work\, he brilliantly mixes historical events with biographical elements from the lives of composers.  An eternal traveller\, the German composer lived in exile for a long time and found only in music (the Bayreuth Theatre being the most eloquent example) a permanent home. Based on this metaphor\, which he extends to the current geopolitical situation\, Herheim paints a stunningly rich picture: over the course of the four evenings\, a community emerges\, which will occupy\, right down to the foyer\, the entire space of the Deutsche Oper. \nDirector of the Berlin institution since 2007\, conductor Donald Runnicles promises a musical reading that is as ardent as it is committed. Long live Wagner’s music!

SUMMARY:Wagner-Zirkel & Der Ring des Nibelungen
DESCRIPTION:Zurich\n3-9 may\, 2024 \n \nIn May 2024\, the new interpretation of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen by stage director Andreas Homoki and Maestro Gianandrea Noseda will be presented as a cycle for the very first time.\nZurich is one of the birthplaces of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. In Zurich the German composer – at the time a wanted revolutionary in exile – first developed the idea of his opera cycle\, drafted the story\, put pen to paper\, and composed large swaths of the score. For these reasons alone\, the city has a link to this epic work\, which comprises four evenings and 16 hours of music. The interest in this new Ring has been overwhelming\, reaching far beyond the borders of Switzerland. Therefore\, the Opernhaus plans on recording its new Ring and sharing it as a live streaming with fans around the world. With your attendance at the Fundraising-Stage-Dinner as part of the «Wagner-Zirkel» you support the Opernhaus Zurich. \nThe two cycles are already sold out\, but we have reserved a contingent of tickets exclusively for guests of the «Wagner-Zirkel». The performance of Das Rheingold will take place on the evening of the 3rd of May 2024. After the opera you are invited to the special stage dinner – in a festive atmosphere. Joining you will be the crème de la crème of the best Wagnerian singers today\, together with none other than Andreas Homoki and Gianandrea Noseda themselves! Together with The Bürgenstock Collection\, Mike Wehrle «Chef of the Year 2023» and Corporate Culinary Director\, will provide exquisite culinary surprises. \n\nAlong with other members of the «Wagner-Zirkel»\, you will not only experience the first cycle of the Zurich Ring\, but will also be particularly close to it. You will get to know the singers personally\, visit the places where Richard Wagner lived and worked during guided tours in Zurich and the Wagner Museum in Lucerne. \n\nExperience the first cycle of the new Zurich Ring and an exclusive supporting program together with other Wagner enthusiasts and belong to the inner circle. Welcome to the «Wagner-Zirkel»! \n \nAn exclusive small group experience by Luxaviation Collection x La Fugue in collaboration with the Opernhaus Zürich  \nRegistration closes on the 3rd of april \n

SUMMARY:The Impressionists
DESCRIPTION:Paris\, Giverny\, Honfleur & Rouen\nApril 23-25\, 2024 \n \nNormandy\, I will visit you again… Le Havre\, Honfleur\, and Giverny are the names of mythic towns that immediately conjure up images of art and painting. \nNormandy\, the land of Impressionism—it was in these beautiful landscapes that one of the most important aesthetic movements in history was born. On November 25\, 1874\, an article about Claude Monet’s painting “Impression\, soleil levant” created a sensation\, launching an artistic revolution that is still going strong today. \nTo mark the 150th anniversary of Impressionism\, we invite you to discover the very places where the great masters found inspiration. It is true that Paris has collected and is still collecting some of the finest paintings of the period\, notably in the Musée d’Orsay and the little-known (and magnificent!) Musée Marmottan-Monet. But Impressionism is also a state of mind that is best discovered in the towns and villages where the painters set down their easels. Immersing yourself in Normandy means tasting the incomparable light\, recognizing a unique palette of colors\, and enjoying life’s finest pleasures. \nYou will be following in the footsteps of Claude Monet in Giverny and Rouen and returning to the roots of Impressionism at the Ferme Saint-Siméon. You will also marvel at the lovely port of Honfleur\, which is inseparable from so many masterpieces. Pascal Bonafoux\, a writer and art historian\, will be sharing his insights throughout the journey. \n \nBook a call with us \n \nAn exclusive small group experience by Luxaviation Collection x La Fugue  \nFor a maximum of 15 participants – registration closes on March 23rd
