SUMMARY:Summer Festival - Bayreuth\, GERMANY
DESCRIPTION:Bayreuth\n\n26 July – 1 August\, 2025 \n\nBayreuth is more than a festival—it’s a myth. It features the final run of Valentin Schwarz’s bold Ring\, a visionary Parsifal with AR-glasses conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado\, and Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson’s striking Tristan and Isolde. A new production of The Master Singers of Nuremberg by musical theatre expert Matthias Davids is highly anticipated. As always\, Bayreuth gathers the world’s finest artists—including Christian Thielemann\, Simone Young\, Elīna Garanča\, Andreas Schager\, and Piotr Beczala—for an operatic experience like no other. \n\nSchedule a private consultation to curate your bespoke journey: lafugue@luxaviation.com

SUMMARY:The Bayreuth Festival
DESCRIPTION:Bayreuth\, Germany\n20-26 August\, 2024 \n \nFor almost one hundred and fifty years\, the Bayreuth Festival has been an unmissable event in musical life. Commissioned by Wagner himself (and made possible by the patronage of King Ludwig II of Bavaria)\, the event is devoted every summer to the operas of the composer of Tristan und Isolde. Located on a “sacred hill”\, the theatre is the place of all legends. The greatest artists (Nietzsche\, Debussy\, Boulez…) have gone there on pilgrimage\, and there is a unique atmosphere in this hall\, where the orchestra is invisible in the pit (“the mystical abyss” say the Wagnerians!) creating an absolutely incomparable acoustic. \nThere are countless legendary productions that have punctuated the history of the Festival\, and it is to one of them that we invite you for the end of this month of July. Director Valentin Schwarz‘s Ring Cycle (Rhinegold\, Valkyrie\, Siegfried\, Twilight of the Gods) was praised when it premiered in 2022: it is being performed here under the musical direction of the great Australian conductor Simone Young. Among the stars of this Ring 2024 are great Wagnerians such as Klaus Florian Vogt\, Michael Spyres and Catherine Foster. \nWhile the Ring is the common thread of the Festival\, other works by the composer are in the spotlight\, including the return of the beautiful Tannhäuser conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann\, the superb Flying Dutchman directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov and the now famous Parsifal by Jay Scheib with its “augmented reality” glasses that caused a sensation last year. An unforgettable experience\, a dizzying ocean of music.

SUMMARY:Charpentier's Medea: A Baroque Masterpiece Revived with William Christie at Teatro Real
DESCRIPTION:Madrid\, Spain \nJune 6\, 2024 \n \nCharpentier’s “Medea\,” the second offering of the season in Madrid following Cherubini’s inaugural performance\, stands as one of the most captivating French Baroque operas\, showcasing the composer’s mastery in the genre. Under the baton of the renowned William Christie\, and brought to life by Veronique Gens\, the opera features vivid characters\, intense emotions\, and powerful vocal writing. Initially a commercial and critical success\, it quickly faded into obscurity\, remaining largely unperformed for nearly 300 years. \n \nA hallmark of all operatic Medeas is the need for a lead with immense vocal and theatrical prowess\, and Charpentier’s Medea is no exception. Unlike Cherubini’s later version\, the climactic moment in Charpentier’s opera occurs mid-performance\, when Medea\, echoing her predecessor Armide\, calls upon the furies of the underworld to aid in her dreadful vengeance. \n \nThe shadow of Lully looms large over Charpentier’s sole opera. Premiering at the Académie Royale de Musique in 1693\, it initially failed to make an impact\, largely due to the disdain from Lully’s loyalists who were wary of successors showing any Italian stylistic influence. However\, its modern revival\, spurred by Nadia Boulanger’s pioneering 1952 recording\, has transformed it into one of the most treasured gems of French opera from the Sun King’s era. With William Christie at the helm\, audiences in Madrid now have the unique opportunity to experience this Baroque masterpiece anew. \n \nBook a call with us to organize your journey:  lafugue@luxaviation.com

SUMMARY:Das Rheingold\, by R. Wagner in Berlin
DESCRIPTION:Berlin\n21-27 May\, 2024 \n \nYour invite to a truly exceptional stay. The Deutsche Oper presents Wagner’s Ring Cycle in four consecutive evenings: Rheingoldgold\, Die Walküre\, Siegfried and Twilight of the Gods. This exciting experience\, which must be done at least once in a lifetime\, is offered in Stefan Herheim’s remarkable staging. The Berlin Opera has a long Wagnerian reputation under the baton of its director Donald Runnicles. In the manner of a “winter Bayreuth”\, the singers gathered here (Derek Walton\, Ricarda Merbeth\, Clay Hilley…) are major interpreters of the German composer. What an experience! Wagner’s masterpiece performed in ideal conditions! \nWinner of several international awards\, Norwegian Stefan Herheim is one of today’s most important directors: in his work\, he brilliantly mixes historical events with biographical elements from the lives of composers.  An eternal traveller\, the German composer lived in exile for a long time and found only in music (the Bayreuth Theatre being the most eloquent example) a permanent home. Based on this metaphor\, which he extends to the current geopolitical situation\, Herheim paints a stunningly rich picture: over the course of the four evenings\, a community emerges\, which will occupy\, right down to the foyer\, the entire space of the Deutsche Oper. \nDirector of the Berlin institution since 2007\, conductor Donald Runnicles promises a musical reading that is as ardent as it is committed. Long live Wagner’s music!
