This summer, the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles presents “Van Gogh and the Stars,” a captivating exhibition featuring Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night” (1888) from the Musée d’Orsay. From June 1 to September 8, 2024, visitors can explore the inspirations behind this masterpiece and its lasting influence on art.
Curated by Jean de Loisy and Bice Curiger, the exhibition delves into Van Gogh’s artistic, scientific, and poetic influences. It also showcases works by artists inspired by Van Gogh, including Edvard Munch, Kazimir Malevich, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Helen Frankenthaler. Contemporary pieces by Tony Cragg, Alicja Kwade, Anselm Kiefer, and others highlight the ongoing fascination with the night sky.
A special highlight is the display of the masterpiece “Starry Night Over the Rhône” in Arles for the first time since its creation, from June 1 to August 25, 2024.
